A smart SFP is a network interface module that is inserted into network and voice communication equipment. The benefit of an SFP port is that it enable equipment to support a wide variety of media and connection types(fiber, copper,etc.)such as TDM over Packet, migration and integration of Transport Networks into Packet Switching Networks, interoperability with any standard SAToP equipment, and aggregation of SONET/SDH links.  All Smart SFP transceivers are compliant with MSA recommendations and can be hot plugged and hot swapped.
